Description
This course is run by Carymoor Environmental Trust.
Please note: Each of the two days lasts five hours, and is split up into two sessions either side of a lunch break
This course is for anyone interested in developing their weaving skills, whilst also improving their health and wellbeing in a relaxed and friendly learning environment.
This course involves 2 sessions, on Weds 16th and Thurs 17th April, each running from 10:00 - 15:00. With a maximum of 5 participants per course, you are guaranteed a lot of support from your tutor who will guide you through the process of making willow basket inspired by the traditional Irish Skib.
What You'll Learn:
- Grading Willow: Understand how to select and prepare the perfect willow for your basket.
- Building the Base: Create a sturdy and beautiful foundation for your basket, with an option to try the intricate French Rand base (ideal for those with prior weaving experience).
- Weaving Techniques: Learn how to shape and weave the sides of your basket.
- Rod Border Crafting: Finish your basket with a polished and professional border.
What are the entry requirements for this course?
This course is suitable if you have completed our Developer Level in this subject or a similar subject area, or have previous experience, and want to explore further and learn more extensively.
Venue Directions
Follow direction signs to Carymoor when approaching from Dimmer Lane. Pay attention to the traffic lights and only enter the site when the lights are green. There is a 10mph speed limit on site.
What will I need to bring?
Lunch will not be provided, please bring your own. Please bring a pen, some paper and your smartphone if you have one. Please wear clothing suitable for the activity. Please also bring photo ID with you e.g. passport or driving licence.
