Description
Around 90% of brain growth occurs before the age of three.
Self-regulation in the early years is a critical set of skills that help children to remain calm, attentive, and able to deal with their emotions.
A knowledge of neuroscience can help early years practitioners to improve the development, health, behaviour and outcomes of the babies and children they work with.
This course will allow you to gain an understanding of the early development of the brain, including physical processes and how they relate to the social brain.
The course is made up of two units:
- Understanding neuroscience in early years
- Understanding self-regulation and how to nurture this in children from birth to seven years
To enrol on this course, you will be asked to book an interview session in one of our centres which should take around 60-90 minutes. If attending a session in person is not possible for you, please ring us on 0330 332 7997 to book a phone call. Our friendly Customer Engagement team and a dedicated course tutor will be there to support you in completing all the necessary sign-up paperwork and assessments as required. We will also tell you more about the course, what to expect from your time with us and arrange a start date (subject to availability).

Assessment
To achieve the Level 2 Award in an Introduction to Neuroscience in Early Years, learners must successfully demonstrate their achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the 2 units as detailed in the qualification specification.
You will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task. The course is assessed via coursework, there are no exams.
Progression
Depending on your interests, this course is particularly useful for careers such as teaching, nursery work and learning mentorship. Others have also gone on to look at an apprenticeship in Early years or a teaching assistant apprenticeship.
This qualification doesn't lead to a specific job role but it provides continued professional development of new knowledge and skills and supports the Practitioner role in the workplace. Also, when undertaken in conjunction with our Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner, it provides an overall package that allows for further progression in the early years sector.
