Would you like to take your reading skills to a more advanced, confident and independent level so you can fully understand complex real-life texts in the UK?
By enrolling onto this Enhancer level course, you will build a stronger academic and professional vocabulary, develop high-level reading strategies, and learn to analyse structure, tone, nuance and implied meaning. This course is designed for learners who already read confidently and want to progress further to understand sophisticated, formal and workplace-level communication in the UK.
Some of the skills you will develop as part of this course includes:
- identifying arguments, evidence, assumptions and subtle details
- recognising cultural references , implied meaning and writer intention
- familiarity with common idioms
- understanding and compare formal and informal styles in UK communication
- expanded vocabulary across education, work, housing, health, science and community topics
- understand tone, register and organisational structure of British written communication
- develop confidence in reading, discussing and responding to advanced real-life text
The course runs for 6 sessions , each lasting 2 hours, in an interactive, supportive and professional learning environment.
Activities include guided and independent reading, workplace-based tasks, document and policy analysis, vocabulary workshops (collocations, phrasal verbs, idioms), and structured practice with skimming, scanning and advanced reading methods.
Advanced reading skills help you participate fully in daily and professional life in the UK. This Enhancer course prepares you for higher-level study, professional development, career progression and greater independence at work and in the community.
What are the entry requirements for this course?
This course is suitable if you have completed our Developer Level in this subject or a similar subject area, or have previous experience, and want to explore further and learn more extensively. You will need to have internet access and be able to join on Teams.
