Description
Writing Poetry with the Celtic Wheel of the Year
Learn how to write poems inspired by the themes of the Celtic Wheel of the Year.
In this course, you will:
- Grow in confidence and motivation by sharing poems with the group
- Learn about traditions from British folklore
- Explore poetry as a way to support wellbeing, clarity of thought, and self-expression
Each week, we'll explore a poem reflecting a different theme from British folklore and the traditions of our Celtic ancestors. The Celtic Bard's role was to explore and convey spiritual and philosophical ideas through poetry, so we'll also open up discussion around the meaning and themes within each poem.
Our focus will be on writing motivational poetry that supports wellbeing and encourages clear, thoughtful expression.
Following the tradition of the ancient Celtic Bards, we'll light a candle and take part in a guided visual meditation to call in the Celtic spirit of poetic inspiration - Awen. From there, we'll create a collective poem in the same style, with each participant contributing one line.
There will also be an open round where learners can read a poem they have written previously, or share a favourite poem with the group, helping each person build confidence in a supportive setting.
