Description
English Skills for Life (ESOL) is for you if English is not your first language. It's an ideal course if you're an adult and need to improve your English for work, further learning or everyday life.
You will develop your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in a friendly and supportive environment.
On completion and passing of this course, you'll receive a qualification and a certificate.
Classes take place at various times and locations and you can join this course at any time during the year.
Entry Requirements
You do not need any formal qualifications to join the course. You will need to complete online initial assessments in Reading and Writing so that the tutor can recommend the right learning pathway for you.
If studying online, you will need access to a computer and a reliable internet connection.
As this course leads to a formal qualification, you need to attend classes regularly. The course can take up to 6 months to complete and so is not suitable if you're only going to be in the UK for a short time.
Assessment
You will be assessed in 4 skills:
- Reading
- Writing
- Speaking and Listening
You can take each assessment when your tutor feels that you are ready. You will need to attend the SS&L centre in Bridgwater, Frome, Taunton or Yeovil to complete the assessment.
Progression
At the end of the course, you will discuss future options with your tutor. You may choose to continue to improve your English by taking further ESOL courses or the Functional Skills English course. Your tutor will also signpost you to other courses available within SS&L or with external organisations.
