Description
This qualification is for those who work or want to work in a wide range of early years settings covering the age range 0-5 years. For example in the roles of:
- Early years assistant
- Preschool assistant
- Playgroup assistant
- After school assistant
- Childminder assistant
- Childminder
You will work towards the Early Years Practitioner (EYP) Qualification (Level 2), with future progression onto Early Years Educator Level 3 and gain professional industry experience. Staff members with a EYP L2 qualification can be counted in the Level 2 staff to child ratios in childcare settings. Please note, this course is not the Apprenticeship, this is a Diploma only course.
You will be taught by an expert industry qualified and highly experienced local tutor, with any additional support to suit your personal learning style and learning needs. If not currently working in the industry, you will need a minimum of 1 day per week in an Early Years Childcare setting to complete the evidence requirements of this course.
Classes take place at various times and locations and you can join this course at any time during the year. It will usually take 12 months to complete.
To enrol on this course, you will be asked to book an interview session in one of our centres which should take around 60-90 minutes. If attending a session in person is not possible for you, please ring us on 0330 332 7997 to book an online session. Our friendly Customer Engagement team and a dedicated course tutor will be there to support you in completing all the necessary sign-up paperwork and assessments as required. We will also tell you more about the course, what to expect from your time with us and arrange a start date (subject to availability).
Entry Requirements
To study for this qualification, you will need to be working or volunteering in an Early Years Childcare setting for at least 10 hours a week.
You should ideally have the equivalent of Level 1 literacy skills, however, a formal qualification is not required as this will be assessed prior to starting the course.
You will need access to the internet and a computer/laptop to complete the coursework.
Assessment
You must complete a total of 9 mandatory units to successfully complete this qualification.
During your course you will complete coursework to evidence and achieve this Diploma. Additional activities may include assignments, observations, reviews, witness records, reflective accounts.
Your tutor will support you through assessing your work and provide you with constructive feedback regularly to help you produce the standard of evidence required for this qualification.
Progression
On achievement of this qualification, you will gain access to further learning via the SS&L Early Years curriculum offer, including the Level 3 Diploma for Early Years Educator and / or Early Years Educator Apprenticeship Standard.
