Description
This course is a great starting point if you want to develop your knowledge of autism and make a positive difference. Whether you're supporting someone at work, in your community, or in your personal life, this course will give you valuable insight and practical understanding to help you do just that.
You'll explore:
- How to adopt a positive approach to supporting people with autism
- The current legislative framework relating to autism and how different theories have developed over time
- Supporting and managing transitions for people with autism
- Therapeutic interventions and support for autism and co-occurring conditions
- Supporting communication and social interaction
- Understanding vulnerability and safeguarding responsibilities for support workers
This is a distance learning course, so you can study in your own time, at your own pace. You'll also have a friendly tutor to guide you, mark your work, and support you when needed.

To join, you'll need to book a CEIAG session (Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance). This can be done in person or over the phone and usually takes around 30-40 minutes. If coming in person isn't possible, just give us a call on 0330 332 7997 and we'll arrange a phone appointment that works for you. Our friendly Front Door team will guide you through everything - from completing any paperwork and assessments to talking about your goals and next steps. We'll also explain more about the course, what you can expect, and help you choose a start date (subject to availability).
Entry Requirements
You'll need access to a computer or device so you can use Microsoft Teams for tutor reviews and support. You'll also need to be able to download and upload your work as part of the course.
Assessment
You'll complete a written assignment for each unit of the course. These can be submitted as and when you finish each unit - there's no need to wait.
Your dedicated tutor, who specialises in this subject, will mark your work and give you detailed feedback to help you progress.
There are no exams for this course.

After completing this course, you could go on to study further qualifications such as:
