Description
This nationally recognised qualification is for you if you work in any classroom or learning support role for at least 10 hours per week in either a paid or voluntary capacity.
The course is currently running online on Wednesday evenings 5-7pm.
It will help improve your skills and progress your career and is especially designed for people who would like to become a teaching assistant, learning support assistant or a SEN assistant.
The focus of the course is to train you further in child development, health and safety, building relationships and supporting pupils' learning. With the extra skills and knowledge will come growing confidence and the opportunity to demonstrate competence to employers in order to advance your career.
To enrol on this course, you will be asked to book an interview session in one of our centres which should take around 60-90 minutes. If attending a session in person is not possible for you, please ring us on 0330 332 7997 to book an online session. Our friendly Customer Engagement team and a dedicated course tutor will be there to support you in completing all the necessary sign-up paperwork and assessments as required. We will also tell you more about the course, what to expect from your time with us and arrange a start date (subject to availability).
Entry Requirements
To study for this qualification, you will need to be working or volunteering in a School as a Teaching Assistant for at least 10+ hours.
You should ideally have the equivalent of Level 1 literacy skills, however, a formal qualification is not required as this will be assessed prior to starting the course.
You will need access to the internet and a computer/laptop to complete the coursework.
Assessment
To complete this qualification, you must achieve 30 credits in total from a combination of mandatory and optional units. The mandatory units cover general aspects of school and classroom support, you can then choose specific optional units that match your particular work role or school environment.
As this is a competence qualification you will need the support of an employer. Learning will be varied and will include workplace learning and training workshops run by our expert tutors with PowerPoints, videos, tutor-led group discussions and group work so you will get to meet other people on a similar journey to you.
Your tutor will regularly visit the workplace to observe you carrying out the job to complete the competence element and to give you training and feedback. A e-portfolio will be used for collection and submission of evidence.
Progression
On achievement of this qualification, you will gain access to further learning, including the Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools.
