This course is run by Mind in Somerset and the zoom link will be sent out by Mind in Somerset after enrolment.

Mind in Somerset's Online Introduction to Suicide Intervention Support Skills workshop has been designed to increase suicide alertness and community confidence to engage with individuals who have had thoughts of suicide and/or are at risk to self, by supporting them to stay safe. The workshop explores, barriers to talking, engaging people with further support and the importance of understanding limitations, boundaries, and self-care.
By the end of the workshop participants can expect to have:
- Increased confidence in engaging and responding to individuals who talk about suicide and be able to talk with an individual about suicide risk using a 'Safety talk' approach
- Increased confidence in supporting and empowering an individual to stay safe - Knowledge of when and how to alert emergency services
- Knowledge of when and how to signpost into local services and an awareness of local support
- An understanding of the importance of self-care when supporting a person who has thoughts of suicide

This course is suitable if you have completed our Starter Level in this subject or a similar subject area, or have previous experience, and want to progress and explore this subject in more depth. You will need to have internet access and be able to join on Zoom.
What will I need to bring?
Please bring a pen and some paper. Please also bring photo ID with you e.g. passport or driving licence.
Will I be assessed?
There is no formal assessment for this course. Your tutor will provide feedback to help you improve.
